March Socks (Cat Bordhi)

I finished the ribbed leg socks for March, my second pair for my project.
 They were knit with Fleece Artist Woolie Silk 2-ply (65% wool, 35% silk) Dandelion, 1 Skein, knit on size 3 needles. So far I have followed Cat's choice of yarn and color. They were easy and quick.  The ribbing was a knit 2, purl 1 pattern.
 I am pleased with the finished socks.  I haven't blocked them yet. The yarn for my third pair came in the mail Friday, and the yarn is lovely.
 Love's Philosophy

The fountains mingle with the river,
And the rivers with the ocean;
The winds of heaven mix forever,
With sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
all things by a law divine
In one another's being mingle:--
Why not I with thine?

See! the mountains kiss high heaven,
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:--
What are all these kissings worth,
If thou kiss not me?

My Birthday

Today is my birthday
I thought I would share something of myself, so here are some of my very amateurish drawings.
This was a sketch of a bunny I made from recycled denim.
 A sketch of a teddy bear I made from upholstery fabric
And I guess this is pretty obvious, a sugar dispenser (at least I hope you can tell what it is)
 Another teddy bear I made from recycled denim
 A little teapot
 A small recycled denim teddy I made, sitting on top of a small basket
Two very old fashioned teddy bears to help me celebrate my birthday
Thank you for taking the time to visit with me on my birthday.

Vernal Equinox

Today is the Vernal Equinox, meaning the time when the sun crosses the plane of the earth's equator, making night and day of approximately equal length all over the earth.
Since it is the first day of Spring, I thought I would share with you my spring garden. It isn't very impressive yet because there are no crocus, daffodils or flowers, just buds and shoots. I haven't cleared away the brown leaves and debris.

 But look at my oregano, isn't it lovely? I just love the soft green color of the tiny leaves.
And look at the little blue flowers on the rosemary.
 And these are the dried hydrangea blooms and new buds. I need to cut the old blooms off, but I like to wait until it starts to bud, so that I don't cut off any of the old wood that will bud.
 Clay pots waiting to be filled.  I love these pots and I like mine unglazed so they form the crusty white on the outside. These are nice.
An iron pot waiting to be filled.
Buds from the weeping cherry tree.
The base of our  birdbath
And can you just see that tiny green shoot? I pushed aside all the dead leaves from last year and there it is, the tip of my Siberian Iris pushing up!
These pumpkins are still hanging around from Halloween. Maybe I'll have a pumpkin vine this year.
Okay, I know this isn't in the garden, but it is so interesting. I just love the curves of the spokes.
I just had to include my iron roses from my patio chair.
And these grapes from the back of the patio chair
I love the color of this old mason jar, and the bubbles in the glass.
 The daylilies looking so regal.
 The chives
And last, but certainly no least, my Yucca.
Spring has Sprung!

New Teddy Bear

I just finished putting the final touches on this guy.  I will be listing him soon.
I haven't picked a name yet. I would welcome any ideas.
 He is definitely a winsome little guy.
 He is made from recycled denim jeans, with shoe button eyes and a hand stitched nose. I shaded his eyes and around his nose.
 I knitted a sweater for him, then spent hours trying to find the right buttons. I sewed on buttons two times, then removed them, before deciding to use black pom-poms.
I raided all my scrap drawers and boxes to find things for his collection of things to hang from his belt and sweater. He is a collector of odd things he likes or might need.
 Who can know what use he might have for some of the things he carries around with him. He is a strange, wonderful sprite.
It took me hours and much back and forth before deciding on which things to give him for his collection.
I knitted his hat from blue wool yarn from Rowan. I used the pattern from "Irresistible Gifts to Knit" by Alan Dart. It is the hat for his Yuletide Gnomes, which I modified. I added the inner workings of a wristwatch along with black pom-poms and a few trinkets.
And to finish him off, I gave him red striped socks, with some hasty darning (meant to be charming) for his little bear feet.
Please help me name him, by leaving any suggestions you might have.

Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day!

Saturday Morning

The rain and wind were ferocious this morning.  I thought the wind was going to take the storm door off the hinges.  It was a good day for reading, knitting and eating.
I love starfruit.
 Aren't they cute?

I thought it might be fun to share some refrigerator art with you, by that I mean all the silly and strange things we put on the front of our refrigerators.
Like Alfred for instance
or this silly magnet picture that has been sticking to our refrigerator for years.  I worked at a dog kennel and brought this home so I would have the phone number handy.  I will probably never call the number again, but it is still stuck to the refrigerator
And here is a picture my daughter drew for me. It is of me, my kids and my dad when we visited him in New Mexico.  The kids are all grown and my dad died a long time ago. But I love the picture.
And who doesn't love Bugs Bunny? You can see how old it is, when was it 32 cents to mail a letter?
 Doesn't everyone have a recipe stuck to the front of their refrigerator.  We make these so often that I don't need to look at the recipe now, but just in case.
And I think this is the newest magnet to find it's way onto our "lovely" (I still don't know why I picked black, oh yeah, I thought it would show less dirt, ha!) black refrigerator.
 No, these are not on my refrigerator, I just love the frog and his cute hand!
