Fabrics and Teddy Bears

I was in the fabric store yesterday, and couldn't resist the upholstery fabrics in the remnants bin, I am a sucker for a bargin.  I love the colors and texture of these remnants.

Now to decide what to do with them, I have been thinking of purses perhaps.
I buy lots of remnants, they are a perfect size for teddy clothes and for the teddies themselves.

This is my collection of faux suede, I've used this material for teddies.

These teddies were made from the faux suede

This is part of my collection of faux fur upholstery fabric, also great for making teddies

These guys were made from the faux fur upholstery fabric

I also use lots of recycled denim for my teddy bears

such as these two teddies
I also use blankets, some mohair, other kinds of upholstery, a little faux fur for my teddy bears.

Morning

MORNING WAKING

In the morning I wake
In the gauzy light of my bedroom
I lay still, feigning sleep
While the cat is curled at my feet
I hear the dog snoring on his bed
I try to remember what I was dreaming
That made me so sad
I open one eye
The one away from the cat’s view
And silently turn my head
The hands on the clock
Are barely visible
Just two dark arrows
On the moon face
The dresser stands mute
It’s shape yet undetermined
But the cat knows I am awake
He climbs the quilt mountain
And sticks his wet nose to mine

My Winter Garden

There is beauty in your garden in the winter, you just have to look for it.

Empty plant urns with a lovely patina

Birdbath disassembled or standing with leaves and water

The beauty of rust, rust can be beautiful!

Dried Rose of Sharon buds

Pumpkins left over from Halloween

Statuary and Sun Dials waiting for Spring
My Yucca covered with rain drops

A lacy, delicate leaf
There is a great deal of beauty in a garden in the winter, the birds that sit in the trees waiting for me to fill the bird feeder, the squirrels that are the tightrope walkers on the fence and telephone lines, the Rosemary that bravely awaits the warming kiss of the sun and much much more. Take a walk through your garden and look for all the things you don't see when the flowers and trees are in full summer dress.

A Valentine's Day Thought

 HAPPINESS

One night I dreamed
I climbed a set of golden stairs
And at the very top
Was a tiny door with a diamond knob
I found a silver key
Hidden in my pocket
Trembling I put the key
Into the shimmering lock
It sprang open with a tiny click
I held my breath
And bent to peer inside
It was filled with white light
And nothing else
I slowly raised my hand
And placed it inside
My fingertips warmed
Then my whole hand
It spread up my arm
A comforting warmth
I stood and thought
Why is  the door so small?
If only I could walk inside
Perhaps it would thaw my frozen heart
I withdrew my arm
It glowed like summer honey
The warmth dripped off my fingertips
In golden drops
I placed my hand on my chest
I heard the icy crystals cracking
And falling away
Happiness spread up my neck
When I opened my eyes
Light filled the space
The little door was once again closed
It’s diamond knob turned to brass
I leaned to read the  little sign
That hung from it’s burnished knob
Only two words written there
Only two! YOUR HEART!
I woke then and  thought about my dream
What did it mean
Could it be that happiness resides
Within each heart
You just have to open a tiny door
To let the light shine through
